Political Heat Rises in Bihar Over MLC Elections
Political activities have gained significant momentum in Bihar as the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) intensifies its preparation for the upcoming biennial elections to eight Legislative Council (MLC) seats. These comprise four graduate and four teacher constituencies. Political analysts believe that the outcomes of these high-stakes elections will reflect the shifting political currents in the state.
Recently, senior leaders and state presidents of NDA constituents gathered at the BJP state headquarters in Patna. The high-level meeting focused extensively on chalking out a unified campaign strategy, ensuring seamless organizational coordination among alliance partners, and managing grassroots voter outreach. Leaders from BJP, JD(U), LJP (Ramvilas), RLM, and HAM participated, expressing full confidence in clinching victory across all eight seats.
BJP and JD(U) Announce Key Candidates
The Bharatiya Janata Party has unveiled its candidate list, placing its trust in seasoned politicians and incumbent MLCs. Sarvesh Kumar has been fielded from the Darbhanga Graduates constituency, Narendra Prasad Singh from Tirhut Teachers, and Nawal किशोर Yadav from Patna Teachers, while Dr. N.K. Yadav has been nominated from the Kosi Graduates constituency.
Meanwhile, alliance partner Janata Dal (United) finalized its list earlier, fielding heavyweights such as Neeraj Kumar from the Patna Graduates constituency. The deliberate distribution of tickets aims to strike a fine balance among various social and professional groups to prevent any internal discord within the coalition.
Jan Suraaj Enters the Fray
Adding a new dynamic to the electoral contest, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj party has also fielded its candidates across constituencies, transforming what would have been a traditional contest into a fiercely fought multi-cornered battle. The battle for the Patna Graduates seat, in particular, has drawn immense attention with JD(U)'s sitting MLC Neeraj Kumar facing Jan Suraaj-backed Dr. Anuj Singh.
