Electoral Heat Rises for Eight Seats of Bihar Legislative Council
Political activity in Bihar has intensified significantly with the onset of biennial elections for key seats in the Legislative Council. Following the schedule announced by the Election Commission, administrative preparations have been finalized to elect representatives for these prestigious constituencies, which include both graduate and teacher segments.
The formal nomination process for these eight seats began on Tuesday. Prospective candidates have started finalizing their documents to file their papers within the stipulated deadline. Political circles are abuzz with speculation regarding the candidates various parties will field, with the ruling NDA, opposition parties, and new entrants like Jan Suraaj actively mobilizing their bases.
At the administrative level, strict measures have been put in place to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election. According to the detailed election timeline released by the Election Commission, candidates can file their nomination papers until October 6. The filing is taking place at the Patna Divisional Commissioner's office, where robust security arrangements have been established. Scrutiny of the received nominations will take place on October 7.
Candidates have until October 9 to withdraw their names, after which the final list of contenders will become clear. Voting for all eight constituencies will be held simultaneously on October 23 from 8 AM to 4 PM. Counting of votes will take place four days later on October 27.

Divisional Commissioner Rajesh Kumar, who also serves as the returning officer, chaired a high-level review meeting via video conferencing with district magistrates of these regions to review preparedness from nomination to polling.
Flying squads and static surveillance teams have been constituted to monitor suspicious activities and curb any violations of the Model Code of Conduct. Political party representatives have also been briefed on the guidelines issued by the commission to ensure smooth compliance.
