Shocking Incident Shakes National Capital
In a shocking incident that has once again raised serious concerns over women's safety in the national capital, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped near the famous Kalkaji Temple in south-east Delhi. The perpetrators reportedly posed as police officers to intimidate the victim and her friend before committing the heinous crime. The incident has triggered widespread outrage and put the spotlight back on the safety of public spaces in Delhi.
According to the details, the minor victim had visited the Kalkaji Temple along with a 17-year-old male friend to offer prayers. Little did they know that a harrowing ordeal awaited them just a short distance away from the temple premises. The exploitation of people's trust in law enforcement authorities by criminals to execute such horrific acts has left the local community deeply disturbed.
How the Crime Unfolded at Aastha Kunj Park
The incident took place on Monday evening when the two friends, after offering prayers at the temple, walked towards the nearby Aastha Kunj Park at around 7:30 PM. As they were talking in a relatively secluded area of the park, three unidentified men aged between 25 and 30 approached them. Posing as law enforcement personnel, the accused threatened them with legal consequences for sitting in the park after dark.
Before the victim and her friend could comprehend the situation, one of the miscreants forcefully grabbed the boy to prevent him from raising an alarm or escaping for help. Subsequently, all three men subjected the minor girl to sexual assault. Following the horrific act, the perpetrators fled into the darkness, threatening the victims with dire consequences if they reported the matter to anyone.
Swift Police Action Leads to Encounter and Arrest
The distressed victims immediately informed the police, making a PCR call at around 8:45 PM. A police team rushed to the spot, took the minor for medical examination, and registered a case under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Kalkaji Police Station. Multiple teams were formed to track down the culprits.
During the early hours of Tuesday, acting on a tip-off, police tracked one of the prime suspects, identified as Asif, near the DM Office in the Amar Colony area. Sensing police presence, the accused allegedly opened fire on the patrolling team. In retaliatory firing, Asif sustained a bullet injury on his leg and was subsequently apprehended. Forensic teams have cordoned off the encounter site to gather crucial evidence, while efforts are underway to nab the absconding accomplices.
