Weather Shift in Delhi-NCR Raises Early Winter Questions
The weather in the national capital and surrounding areas like Noida and Gurugram has taken a pleasant turn over the last few days. Cool morning and evening breezes have led many residents to wonder if winter is arriving earlier than usual this year. However, meteorological experts emphasize that this change is temporary and not a permanent onset of the winter season.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the recent dip in temperature was driven by a deep depression system originating from the Bay of Bengal combined with western disturbances affecting the northern hill states. These combined factors brought unseasonal chill to the plains.
Monsoon Withdrawal and Future Temperature Trends
While the monsoon has officially withdrawn from Delhi and Rajasthan, withdrawal processes are still underway across other parts of the country. IMD forecasts indicate that as skies clear up in the coming days, maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to rise once again, returning closer to seasonal norms.
Air Quality Concerns Rise with Clear Skies
With rainfall stopping and skies clearing, Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) has slipped into the moderate category in several areas. Stagnant wind speeds are allowing pollutants to accumulate, prompting the government to enforce strict anti-pollution measures ahead of winter, including vehicle restrictions starting November 1.
