Preparations for the upcoming National Unity Day celebrations have encountered an unexpected medical challenge in Gujarat, where a number of security personnel rehearsing for the mega event have tested positive for dengue. Thousands of central armed police forces and state police personnel have assembled in Gandhinagar to participate in the prestigious parade held annually near the Statue of Unity in Kevadia.
According to health officials, routine health screenings and check-ups for personnel staying in temporary camps revealed several dengue cases. The affected personnel have been immediately hospitalized and are currently under observation with stable conditions. Local municipal authorities swiftly deployed specialized medical teams to manage the situation and prevent further transmission within the camp.
Intensive sanitation and fogging operations launched in residential sectors
To curb the vector-borne disease, the local municipal corporation has intensified sanitation drives across sectors 28 and 29, where approximately 1,000 temporary quarters have been set up for the visiting forces. Special anti-larval treatments and extensive outdoor and indoor fogging operations are being conducted daily around the clock.
Ground surveillance teams have been deployed to inspect potential mosquito breeding sites and carry out source reduction measures in and around the residential zones. Authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety and well-being of the thousands of personnel who practice daily for the grand parade.
Tracing the origin of the infection and travel history check
Medical experts are investigating whether the personnel contracted the infection locally in Gandhinagar or brought it from their respective home states, as participants have arrived from various parts of the country where seasonal vector-borne diseases remain active. Health records and travel histories of the affected individuals are being thoroughly reviewed.
Despite this temporary hurdle, officials have assured that the situation is fully under control. Comprehensive medical support, continuous health monitoring, and rigorous hygiene protocols are in place to ensure that the National Unity Day parade preparations proceed smoothly and safely.
