A Horrific Highway Tragedy on Purvanchal Expressway
In a heart-wrenching incident that has left an entire district in deep mourning, four members of a single family lost their lives in a devastating road accident on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh. The victims were returning home to Deoria with the mortal remains of an Indian Army soldier who had passed away during medical treatment in Chandigarh. What was supposed to be a solemn journey to pay final respects turned into an unprecedented catastrophe, wiping out multiple generations of the family within a span of less than 48 hours.
According to detailed reports, Subedar Major Satyavan Singh, a resident of Gehila-Dudhela village in Deoria, had been undergoing treatment for a severe kidney ailment at a medical facility in Chandigarh. Despite family members keeping their hopes alive, the soldier succumbed to his illness. His elder brother, Ramsumujh Singh, along with other relatives, had traveled to Chandigarh to escort his body back home with full military honors so that the native village could bid him a final farewell.
Brothers United in Death: The Fateful Journey Home
Ramsumujh Singh, who worked as a postmaster, shared a deep and affectionate bond with his younger brother. Refusing to let the soldier travel back alone in an ambulance, Ramsumujh chose to accompany the mortal remains. Alongside them was 18-year-old Gaurav Singh, the soldier's only son, who wanted to be part of his father's final journey. Early Sunday morning, the ambulance embarked on the long drive from Chandigarh to Deoria.
However, fate had scripted a brutal turn of events. As the vehicle traversed the Purvanchal Expressway near the Ayodhya-Sultanpur border, tragedy struck. Traveling at a high speed, the ambulance crashed directly into the rear of a stationary heavy truck parked improperly on the roadside. The impact was catastrophic, completely crushing the front cabin of the ambulance and trapping the occupants inside.
Rescue Operations and Overwhelming Grief
Local police and highway authorities rushed to the accident site following the alert. Due to the severe mangling of the vehicle, rescue teams had to deploy specialized cutting equipment to retrieve the trapped bodies from the wreckage. While the driver and front-seat occupants succumbed on the spot, injured passengers shifted to the hospital also passed away during treatment. The deceased were identified as Subedar's son Gaurav Singh, brother Ramsumujh Singh, relative Rajan Chaudhary, and driver Jaspal.
