Senior IAS Officer Dr. Mandeep Bhandari Takes Over CBSE Leadership
In a major administrative reshuffle, the central government has appointed seasoned 2001-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Dr. Mandeep Bhandari as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet cleared his appointment, bringing an experienced hand to head one of the nation's premier educational examination boards.
Prior to taking on this vital educational responsibility, Dr. Bhandari was serving as the Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Known for his rigorous administrative acumen and execution capabilities, his transition to the education sector is expected to bring renewed focus and systematic streamlining to CBSE's operational framework.
From Medical Profession to Civil Services
Dr. Bhandari’s educational background is quite unique for a senior bureaucrat. Hailing originally from the state of Punjab, he completed his formal education in the medical sciences before clearing the civil services examination. He earned his MBBS degree from the Dayanand Medical College in Ludhiana, which operates under Punjab University.
Because of his medical qualifications, he is formally addressed as Dr. Mandeep Bhandari. This distinct healthcare background previously aided him significantly during his tenure in the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, where he managed key public health initiatives and administrative portfolios.
Extensive Experience in Shrine Board Management
With over twenty-five years of rich administrative experience across various capacities, Dr. Bhandari has managed some of the most sensitive and high-footfall public institutions in the country. He currently holds the additional charge of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB).
Furthermore, he spent an extensive tenure of over eight and a half years as the Additional CEO of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in Katra. His grassroots administrative experience also includes postings as a key administrator in Jammu, Kathua, and Leh districts, preparing him well for complex organizational challenges.
