Writing Drishyam 3 Climax Was An Uphill Task: Screenwriter Aamil Keeyan Khan Reveals Over 100 Drafts Were Created

The Massive Creative Challenge Behind Drishyam 3

Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn's highly anticipated thriller franchise 'Drishyam 3' (officially titled 'Drishyam: The Conclusion') has taken the box office by storm. Directed by Abhishek Pathak, the film brings back the iconic character of Vijay Salgaonkar, drawing massive audiences to theatres and receiving widespread critical acclaim for its gripping narrative.

However, crafting this suspenseful masterpiece was no walk in the park. Screenwriter Aamil Keeyan Khan recently opened up about the painstaking writing process, revealing that bringing this original storyline to life required immense effort, emotional balance, and countless revisions.

Over 100 Drafts Prepared For The Perfect Climax

Speaking to the media, Aamil Keeyan Khan shared that deciding the ending of 'Drishyam 3' was one of the hardest challenges of his career. He described the writing journey as climbing a very high mountain, especially with the heavy legacy of two hugely successful preceding films weighing on the team's shoulders.

Aamil humorously revealed that his folders were filled with files named 'FINAL', 'FINAL 2', 'FINAL FINAL', and even 'FINAL PLEASE GOD'. He admitted to losing count after crossing a hundred different drafts, as every single scene needed to strike the right emotional chord while keeping the suspense intact.

"It was like climbing a very high mountain. You have a beloved franchise, a family that audiences have connected with for years, and the burden of the legacy of two well-loved films on your shoulders. And most importantly, how do you surprise the audience for the third time?" — Aamil Keeyan Khan, Screenwriter

Stepping Away From Malayalam Remakes With An Original Script

Unlike the first two instalments which were direct remakes of Mohanlal's Malayalam hits, 'Drishyam 3' charts a completely new path with an original screenplay. The core challenge for the writers was maintaining the DNA of the franchise—blending humour, family emotions, drama, and nail-biting thrill without letting one overpower the other.

The film addresses the final chapter of Vijay Salgaonkar's battle against the Goa police regarding the missing boy, Inspector General Meera Deshmukh's son. With stellar performances from a powerful ensemble cast including Tabu, Shriya Saran, and Jaideep Ahlawat, the movie has smashed box office records worldwide.
