A Major Boost to Urban Transit and Rail Safety
In a significant move to upgrade urban transit and enhance railway safety, the foundation stone for a new four-lane road overbridge (ROB) has been officially laid. This infrastructure project aims to resolve long-standing traffic congestion issues faced by commuters in the region, ensuring smoother and safer daily travel.
The proposed overbridge will be constructed between the Guntur and Nambur railway stations. By replacing a busy level crossing, the project is designed to eliminate traffic bottlenecks caused by frequent train movements, ultimately benefiting thousands of daily motorists, pedestrians, and commercial transporters.
Project Cost, Design and Specifications
Estimated to cost approximately 108 crore rupees, the entire financial burden of this infrastructure initiative is being borne by the Ministry of Railways. Spanning 668 meters in length, the four-lane bridge is engineered to modern structural standards. The project requires nearly 2.9 acres of land, which has been successfully secured to facilitate uninterrupted construction work.
The new structure will replace Level Crossing Gate No. 3, situated on the Guntur-Krishna Canal section of the Guntur-Nambur line. This particular crossing has historically experienced heavy vehicular pressure, leading to considerable delays during peak hours.
Improving Connectivity and Saving Precious Time
Strategically located near the Guntur inner ring road, the bridge will directly connect the main bus stand road to Gorantla village. This seamless connectivity is expected to drastically reduce travel time, minimize fuel wastage, and curb vehicle emissions. Local socio-economic development is anticipated to receive a strong impetus once the project is fully operational.
