Opposition Unites in Delhi to Challenge Election Commission Policies

In a significant political development, leaders of nearly 20 opposition parties under the INDIA bloc convened a crucial meeting at the Constitution Club in New Delhi. Presided over by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, the marathon session lasted over three hours and focused heavily on the autonomy and functioning of constitutional institutions in the country.

Top leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee, deliberated on pressing political matters and arrived at a consensus to launch a united nationwide movement. The opposition has accused the poll panel of operating under executive pressure, thereby compromising the fundamental tenets of Indian democracy.

Demand for Removal of CEC and Transparency in Voter Lists

The opposition coalition has raised serious questions regarding the actions of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, announcing plans to move a motion in Parliament seeking his removal. Furthermore, the alliance has demanded absolute transparency in voter list revisions, insisting that names should not be deleted without prior notice and a fair opportunity for appeal.

Another key demand raised during the meeting is the replacement of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with traditional ballot papers to restore absolute faith among voters regarding election outcomes.

Nationwide District-Level Protests and March to ECI

To mobilize public opinion, the INDIA bloc has scheduled a series of demonstrations. A nationwide 'Save Democracy March' will be organized across all districts from October 2 to October 8, featuring protests outside District Magistrate offices.

Following this, on October 6, all opposition members of Parliament from both houses will march toward the Election Commission headquarters in New Delhi to register their formal protest and submit a comprehensive memorandum.
