In light of continuous Houthi attacks and deteriorating security conditions in Saudi Arabia, the Embassy of India in Riyadh has issued a strict advisory for Indian nationals planning to travel for Umrah or currently in the region. The embassy has warned that passengers may face extended stays due to widespread flight cancellations and operational disruptions at airports across the kingdom.
Injured Citizens and Airport Status
According to the updated advisory, Indian nationals injured in recent airport incidents are currently receiving medical treatment, with several under intensive care. The international airport in Riyadh remains closed for flight operations. However, airports in Dammam, Jeddah, and Madinah are operational, though facing occasional delays and restrictions. Citizens in urgent need of departure have been advised to consider routing through Bahrain, Kuwait, or Qatar, subject to valid visa availability.
Suspension of Flights by Major Airlines
Due to the mounting security risks, several major carriers have extended the suspension of their flights to and from Saudi Arabia:
- Air India and Air India Express have suspended services across all routes until October 20.
- Akasa Air has grounded flights to Riyadh until October 24 and to Jeddah until October 21.
- Indigo has extended its flight suspensions across all regional routes until October 24.
- Limited operations are being managed by Saudi Airlines and Flynas on specific routes like Dammam and Lucknow.
Strict Guidelines on Local Rules and Media Sharing
The embassy urged intending Umrah pilgrims to carefully factor in the ongoing airport disruptions and potential long delays before finalizing their itineraries. Citizens have been strongly advised to follow local administrative guidelines at all times and remain indoors during aerial threats or emergency alerts. Furthermore, the Indian mission has strictly cautioned against recording, publishing, or sharing any photos, videos, or sensitive details regarding the ongoing security incidents on social media platforms.
