External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar Addresses Global Order at Munich Leaders Meeting
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has delivered a sharp assessment of changing geopolitical realities, stating that the United States chose by its own preference to become a solo power. Speaking at the Munich Leaders Meeting in New Delhi, Jaishankar outlined how the transformation of traditional international structures is reshaping global dynamics, with profound implications for middle and emerging powers.
He noted that the ongoing competition between Washington and Beijing has transcended simple bilateral rivalry, weaponizing supply chains, market influence, and strategic resources across the globe. As major powers reposition themselves, smaller and emerging nations are increasingly adopting hedging strategies to protect their economic and security interests rather than aligning blindly with any single bloc.
India's Active Role in Russia-Ukraine Peace Mediation
Highlighting India's evolving diplomatic posture, Jaishankar emphasized that New Delhi is no longer confined to mere advocacy for peace in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Instead, India has stepped into a proactive mediation role, maintaining continuous engagement with both Moscow and Kyiv to address pressing security concerns, maritime navigation in the Black Sea, and energy and grain supply stability. Both warring nations have acknowledged and appreciated India's constructive peace proposals.
Deepening Ties with the European Union and Technological Growth
The External Affairs Minister also noted a historic shift in India's diplomatic approach toward Europe, moving beyond bilateral relations with individual nations to a comprehensive partnership with the European Union. Sectors such as advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, space technology, and artificial intelligence are emerging as key pillars of collaboration, alongside rapidly expanding defense exports by Indian startups.
