Maruti Suzuki Expands Electric Portfolio with New MPV
India's leading car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, is gearing up to introduce its first family electric MPV in the domestic market. Codenamed internally as YMC, this upcoming vehicle aims to capture the growing demand for spacious electric family cars. While competitors have heavily invested in diverse EV lineups, Maruti is carefully crafting vehicles tailored specifically to Indian driving conditions and consumer preferences.
The strategic positioning of this electric MPV is expected to disrupt the mid-size segment. By utilizing shared components and indigenous manufacturing strategies, the company aims to price the vehicle competitively, making electric mobility more accessible to middle-class families.
Exterior Design Combining SUV and MPV Elements
Spy shots and industry leaks indicate that the design of the YMC shares several styling cues with Maruti's recently showcased e-Vitara. It features a bold bonnet design, striking A-pillars, robust side mirrors, and 18-inch aero alloy wheels. The rear profile is heavily inspired by the popular Ertiga, complete with L-shaped tail lamps.
Despite being an MPV, the vehicle's styling incorporates rugged SUV-like proportions to attract modern buyers who prefer a commanding road presence without compromising on cabin space and practicality.
Cabin Space, Features, and Battery Options
Inside the cabin, occupants will experience a tech-forward environment featuring a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The vehicle is anticipated to be offered in both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations, complete with ventilated front seats and comfortable captain chairs in higher trims.
Performance-wise, the MPV is rumored to come with two battery pack options: a 49kWh unit yielding around 415 km of range and a larger 61kWh battery delivering an impressive 515 km of driving range on a single charge.
