A tragic rail accident in Uttar Pradesh has once again highlighted the grave dangers of sitting near open doors in moving trains. A young migrant worker travelling from Surat to his native place in Bihar lost his life after accidentally falling off the running train due to extreme fatigue and lack of balance.
Journey from Surat turns into a nightmare
The victim, identified as Bhushan Paswan, along with his brother Krishna Paswan, worked as a labourer in Surat, Gujarat. Eager to return home to Sitamarhi in Bihar, the two brothers boarded the Awadh Express. Due to heavy crowding in the general compartment, finding adequate seating space was extremely difficult. To escape the suffocating crowd inside, Bhushan chose to sit near the open doorway of the coach.
As the train crossed Bharthana railway station late at night, exhaustion overcame the passengers. According to his brother, Bhushan likely dozed off due to sheer fatigue while sitting near the edge. With a sudden jerk or loss of balance, he slipped through the open doorway and plunged onto the railway tracks in the dark.
Desperate search and tragic confirmation
When the train gathered speed, fellow passengers realized what had happened and desperately pulled the alarm chain to halt the train. Although the train stopped a short distance away, confusion regarding the exact nature of the emergency caused the train to resume its journey shortly after.
Inside the coach, Krishna frantically searched for his brother. Upon realizing that Bhushan was missing, he learned from other passengers that someone had fallen off. Stricken with grief, Krishna got down at the next station and alerted railway authorities. Police recovered the body from the tracks, completed legal formalities, and sent it for post-mortem examination, plunging the family into deep mourning.
