Video: Muhammad Yunus Faces Public Anger, Called 'Terrorist' by Diaspora at JFK Airport

In a dramatic turn of events capturing international attention, former Bangladesh interim government chief Muhammad Yunus faced intense public backlash during his overseas visit. A group of angry Bangladeshi expatriates cornered and confronted Yunus at New York's John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport, sparking a heated altercation that has since gone viral on social media.

This marked Yunus's first foreign trip since stepping down from his position as chief advisor following the ouster of Sheikh Hassan's regime in August 2024. As soon as he arrived at the airport terminal, expatriates confronted him over his handling of the nation's affairs, accusing him of destroying democracy and being responsible for massive casualties during the tenure of his administration.

'You Are a Terrorist': Heated Exchange at the Airport

The viral video clearly captures enraged individuals shouting slogans and aggressively questioning Yunus. One man can be heard shouting in the footage, "You are a terrorist. You killed people in Bangladesh, you killed thousands of police officers. Why did you come here?" The protesters openly accused him of pushing the country into political turmoil and violence.

According to reports from local media outlets, security personnel immediately intervened as the situation threatened to escalate out of hand. To ensure safety, security officials quickly escorted Yunus and his close associate, Lamia Morshed, away from the scene and into a secure area inside the terminal. No official statement has yet been released by Yunus or his representatives regarding the incident.

Controversies and Changing Regional Dynamics

Political analysts point out that domestic policies and administrative decisions under Yunus's interim regime have faced continuous scrutiny ever since the political transition in late 2024. Relations with neighboring nations, particularly India, also witnessed strains during his tenure due to various contentious statements and policy shifts. This underlying discontent has now evidently manifested among the diaspora community abroad, making this airport confrontation a major talking point across international news platforms.
