Owaisi Criticizes Voter List Revision
AIMIM Chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has once again launched a scathing attack on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, terming it a backdoor implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Speaking on the contentious issue, Owaisi expressed deep concerns over the implications of the exercise on common citizens, particularly the underprivileged sections of society.
He questioned the transparency and decision-making process within the Election Commission, pointing out media reports regarding internal differences among election commissioners. Owaisi asked how many critical decisions were taken by majority consensus and what the legal status would be of those policies where commissioners had registered their official objections on record.
Hardships Faced by the Common People
Highlighting the practical difficulties on the ground, especially in states like Telangana, Owaisi stated that ordinary citizens are being forced to run from pillar to post to procure legacy documents. He argued that asking for historical records from families who do not possess them places an enormous and unfair burden on the poor, threatening their voting rights and citizenship status.
