In an appalling incident exposing the vulnerabilities of train passengers, a 21-year-old migrant worker returning home was held captive, brutally assaulted, and thrown out of a speeding train by a habitual criminal posing as a police officer. The victim succumbed to critical injuries on the spot after being flung onto the railway tracks with his limbs tied.
A Nightmare Journey on Danapur Special
The victim, identified as Nitin Kumar, a resident of Vaishali, Bihar, had been working hard as a laborer in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. He boarded the Danapur Special train (07091) hoping to reunite with his family. However, his journey turned into a horrific nightmare when an extortionist spotted him travelling alone.
According to railway police officials, the accused, identified as Rohit, zeroed in on Nitin as an easy target. Under the pretext of interrogating him for allegedly smoking inside the coach, Rohit began intimidating the young man by posing as an STF and railway police personnel.
Ransom Call and Unthinkable Cruelty
The accused held the young laborer hostage in a secluded vestibule corner of the train. Using the victim's phone, he contacted Nitin's family and demanded an immediate ransom of ₹10,000, threatening severe consequences if the cash was not sent immediately.
Before the panic-stricken family could arrange the amount, the assailant tied Nitin's hands and feet with rope so that he could not resist or escape. He then dragged the helpless youth to the open exit gate of the coach and threw him out of the moving train into the darkness.
Arrest From Varanasi and Previous Convictions
Following a complaint lodged by the victim's family, a special investigative team led by Railway DSP Kanchan Kumari launched an intensive hunt. Using surveillance and technical data, police tracked down and arrested Rohit from Varanasi.
"During custodial interrogation, the accused confessed to the gruesome crime. He admitted to tying the victim's limbs and pushing him out of the running train. He is a habitual offender with a dangerous criminal record," stated Railway DSP Kanchan Kumari.
Shockingly, police records revealed that Rohit had pushed two young men out of a running train in a similar fashion in 2024. While both victims miraculously survived that incident and Rohit served a prison sentence, he returned to the same lethal trade immediately after walking out of jail.
Calls for Speedy Trial and Scrutiny of Passenger Safety
The railway police announced that they are preparing a watertight chargesheet to secure maximum punishment through a speedy trial. The horrifying crime has raised grave concerns among regular passengers, highlighting severe lapses in coach patrolling and nighttime security inside trains.
