A major political slugfest has erupted following statements made by senior Supreme Court advocate and activist Prashant Bhushan, who openly declared that they want a 'regime change' in the country and see nothing wrong with it. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi alongside Neha Bora, Abhijit Dipke, and actor Prakash Raj, Bhushan alleged that the central government is bent on crushing electoral democracy and fundamental rights.
Elaborating on his stance during the media interaction, Bhushan stated, "This government repeatedly claims that this is an attempt by the opposition to seize power. We are simply appealing to save electoral democracy in the country. If such brutality continues, regime change will certainly happen. We all want regime change. Is there anything wrong with that? Regime change is every citizen's democratic right, and expressing dissent against the government is not a crime."
BJP Hits Back: 'This Country Belongs to 140 Crore Indians, Not Anyone's Jagir'
The remarks drew a sharp and aggressive counter-offensive from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Addressing a press conference, BJP MP Sambit Patra launched a scathing attack on Prashant Bhushan and Neha Bora, calling their comments shocking and reflective of a deep-seated hostility towards the nation. Patra specifically referenced remarks made during the briefing regarding how regime change takes place, accusing them of trying to incite unrest akin to foreign disturbances.
Patra lambasted the group, stating, "This once again proves that Rahul Gandhi and these so-called activists are not fighting for the future of students or democratic values. Their sole intention is to orchestrate a coup, bypass elections, and grab power through the back door. These individuals are selling out to foreign interests for petty gains because the public repeatedly rejects them at the ballot box. I want to make it unequivocally clear: this country is not anyone's personal property or a family estate. This nation belongs to 140 crore Indians."
Focus on Youth and Student Leadership
During the press briefing, Prashant Bhushan also emphasized that the upcoming movement for democratic accountability would be spearheaded by students and youth organizations rather than mainstream political entities alone. As both sides lock horns over the definition of democratic dissent versus destabilization, the 'regime change' debate has intensified political friction nationwide.
