A local dispute in Punjab turned tragic and violent when three individuals who went to question suspects over a mobile theft and alleged drug peddling were brutally attacked with sharp weapons. The violent assault resulted in the death of one person, while two others sustained serious injuries, plunging the entire neighborhood into fear and shock.
Escalation Over Mobile Theft and Drug Protest
According to reports, the incident took place under a local police station jurisdiction where victims' families alleged that a group of individuals was openly involved in drug consumption and illegal peddling. Tensions flared when these suspects allegedly stole a mobile phone from a local youth. When the victims and their acquaintances went to inquire about the phone and demand its return, a heated argument broke out, leading to the physical assault.
The attackers reportedly used sharp-edged weapons, severely injuring 40-year-old Bikramjit Singh, along with Nishan Singh and Gurmukh Singh. Although they were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, Bikramjit Singh succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The condition of the other two injured victims remains serious.
Police Register Case Against 15 People
Taking prompt action following the complaint, law enforcement authorities registered a case against 10 to 15 individuals involved in the attack. Senior police officials stated that while the primary trigger appears to be the mobile theft dispute, all allegations regarding the illegal drug trade in the village are being thoroughly investigated. Raids are underway to apprehend all suspects linked to the crime.
