During this visit, he interacted directly with local residents to understand their grievances regarding their missing voting rights.
Residents informed Rahul Gandhi that they have been residing in the area for decades and had successfully cast their votes in previous parliamentary and assembly elections. However, following administrative actions and the demolition of their dwellings, their names reportedly vanished from the electoral rolls. This situation has once again raised serious concerns regarding the transparency of the electoral mechanism.
Election Commission Clarifies Stand on Electoral Roll Deletions
Following the questions raised by the opposition, the Election Commission clarified that voter lists and polling station records in the Bela Estate matter have been thoroughly examined. Officials stated that discrepancies in address details during enumeration led to sorting complexities. However, the poll panel emphasized that standard legal procedures govern the entire exercise.
The Commission reiterated that citizens whose names are omitted can apply for inclusion under Section 19 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, provided they fulfill the required statutory criteria. A designated schedule allows applicants to submit their claims to ensure their inclusion in the final electoral rolls.

During a high-level meeting of the Congress Working Committee, party leaders deliberated extensively on the voter deletion issue. Rahul Gandhi asserted that the party will take this battle beyond Parliament and into the streets, planning extensive grassroots mobilization against alleged electoral discrepancies.
Party general secretary K.C. Venugopal accused the ruling dispensation of undermining democratic institutions and depriving millions of citizens of their fundamental voting rights. The opposition maintains that these systematic removals are aimed at altering electoral outcomes.
