NEW DELHI: Political activity in the national capital intensified on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, with a video shared by PTI News on X (formerly Twitter) drawing significant attention. The video features Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bharadwaj arriving at Jantar Mantar on foot amid strict security restrictions and metro station closures.
In the clip, Bharadwaj can be heard stating that he managed to reach Jantar Mantar from his home without using a car, scooter, or any vehicle. He noted that while nearby metro stations were closed, commuters could still use stations that remained operational. The remarks came as security measures were heavily tightened across parts of Delhi, restricting movement around key venues.
Background and Context
According to reports and updates surrounding the day's events, the situation at Jantar Mantar also saw other political developments. RJD MP Manoj Jha was reportedly detained by police near Jantar Mantar, expressing strong dismay from inside a police van by stating, "Aaj Gandhi Jayanti hai, sharam aani chahiye" (Today is Gandhi Jayanti, you should be ashamed). These incidents have once again highlighted the friction between political demonstrators and law enforcement authorities in Delhi.
Social Media Reactions
The viral video has elicited diverse reactions from social media users. While supporters and critics engaged in political debates regarding the restrictions and the leaders' actions, common citizens continued to voice concerns over traffic diversions and commuting hurdles caused by closures.
