Sikkim Government Announces Major DA Hike for Employees and Pensioners
In a significant move ahead of the festive season, the Sikkim government has brought major relief to state government employees and pensioners by announcing an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR). According to a circular issued by the finance department, the enhanced rates will be effective retrospectively from January 1, benefiting thousands of families.
This decision is expected to directly impact more than 50,000 employees and retired personnel across the state. By neutralizing the adverse effects of inflation on salaries and pensions, the government aims to provide financial stability and boost the morale of its workforce.
Revised Rates and Categories Benefited
For those under older pay scales, the DA and DR have seen a direct 5 percent increase. Employees and pensioners receiving pre-revised basic pay will now get a DA and DR hike from 257% to 262%. Meanwhile, those under the revised basic pay structure will see their rates rise from 58% to 60%.
Contractual workers drawing revised salaries under regular scales and work-charged staff will also fall under the purview of this new order. Furthermore, All India Service (AIS) officers stationed in the state will receive corresponding revisions based on their respective pay commissions.
Transparent Calculation Rules Introduced
The state finance department has also outlined precise rules for calculating the enhanced DA and DR amounts. Any fractional amount resulting from the calculation that is 50 paise or more will be rounded off to the next higher rupee, while amounts below 50 paise will be disregarded. This removes ambiguity and ensures smooth disbursement of dues.
