A Minor Play Area Dispute Turns into Brutal Violence in Surat
In a shocking display of ruthlessness, a minor dispute in a residential society in Surat, Gujarat, snowballed into a horrific assault on a nine-year-old child. What started as a casual evening of children playing in a designated kids' zone transformed into a nightmare when an adult male lost his temper over a soft toy ball accidentally hitting his daughter. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising serious concerns regarding child safety and the dwindling patience levels among urban residents.
According to the details emerging from the Althan area of Surat, the incident took place on a Friday evening. A group of children, including nine-year-old Hitharth—son of science college professor Jagrutiben Sonaliya—was playing inside the residential complex's kids' zone. The children were enjoying their usual games, completely unaware of the impending hostility that was about to unfold right before them.
Accused Flips Over Smiley Ball Touching His Daughter
The situation took an ugly turn when a soft 'smiley ball' being tossed around by the children accidentally went astray and touched the daughter of a resident named Vardhan Shah. Instead of treating the incident as a harmless childhood occurrence, Shah flew into an uncontrollable rage. He started hurling filthy abuses at young Hitharth, creating a scene that frightened everyone present in the vicinity.
Without showing an ounce of restraint, the adult accused resorted to physical violence against the defenseless third-grader. Eyewitness accounts and subsequent investigations revealed that Shah slapped the boy five to six times in rapid succession. The force of the blows was so severe that the young boy lost his balance and collapsed flat onto the hard flooring of the play area.
Child Begged for Mercy with Folded Hands, But Accused Showed No Pity
As the terrified child lay on the ground, he desperately tried to plead for his safety. Hitharth held his ears with both hands and begged for forgiveness, a universally understood gesture of surrender and remorse. However, the accused remained completely devoid of empathy. Driven by anger, Shah grabbed the weeping child once again and landed two to three more heavy slaps across his face.
The boy's mother, Professor Jagrutiben Sonaliya, later recounted the trauma her son went through. When Hitharth managed to return home, he was sobbing uncontrollably, trembling with fear, and visibly bruised around his cheeks and ear. The sheer brutality caused internal discomfort and severe swelling, leaving the young boy in a state of deep psychological shock.
CCTV Footage Unmasks the Brutal Attack
Initially unaware of the exact gravity of the situation, the family grew alarmed upon seeing the boy's deteriorating condition. Upon questioning other children who witnessed the ordeal, the parents reviewed the CCTV camera installed right outside the kids' zone. The security footage clearly captured the entire sequence of events, showing the accused mercilessly thrashing the minor child.
By late night, Hitharth's condition worsened due to the physical trauma and psychological distress. He complained of severe pain in his ear and head, prompting his parents to rush him to a hospital the next morning for urgent medical evaluation and treatment.
Police Swing into Action and Register Formal Case
Determined to seek justice, Professor Jagrutiben lodged an official police complaint against the accused. Taking cognizance of the matter, the Althan police registered an FIR against Vardhan Shah under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and the Atrocities Act 1989. Recognizing the sensitivity of the crime involving a minor, the investigation has been officially assigned to ACP (H Division) ZR Desai, with authorities assuring strict legal action against the perpetrator.
