Ahead of the auspicious festival of Navratri, preparations are in full swing across the country, but a region in Maharashtra is witnessing a strikingly unique style of Garba. Instead of using traditional dandiya sticks, women and young girls are seen practicing Garba while holding real swords in their hands. Initiated by the Durga Vahini wing of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, this unusual training session has quickly gone viral on social media.
A Perfect Blend of Devotion and Strength
Garba is traditionally celebrated as a form of worship and devotion to Goddess Durga. Blending this devotion with a strong sense of valor and power, the participants are undergoing rigorous training. Amidst traditional beats and folk music, women are being trained in the precise handling of swords, maintaining body balance, and executing fundamental self-defense maneuvers while performing traditional Garba steps.
Focus on Self-Confidence and Self-Defense
Organizers and trainers emphasize that the primary objective of this initiative goes beyond merely giving a new twist to a festive dance. The goal is to build inner strength, boost self-confidence, and make women aware of self-defense techniques. With over 200 registrations in its very first year, the training camp has received an overwhelming response from the community.
Expert Guidance Underway
Under the supervision of expert martial arts and dance trainers, the participants practice complex group formations while safely wielding swords. The viral footage highlights the discipline and enthusiasm of the women, making this Navratri preparation one of the most talked-about topics online.
