In a continuous crackdown on illegal immigration and visa regulation violations, law enforcement agencies have detained three women from Uganda for overstaying their permitted duration in the country. Authorities have initiated formal deportation proceedings to send them back to their homeland following a targeted verification drive.
Surprise Inspection Uncovers Illegal Stay
According to security officials, an intelligence-based verification drive was conducted in a residential complex where suspicious activities regarding foreign nationals were reported. During the operation, three Ugandan nationals—identified as Dorek Ahebwe, Prosy Akunda, and Amina Katusime—were intercepted. When asked for legal travel credentials, they failed to present original passports or visas, offering only photocopies instead.
Subsequent checks through the Immigration, Visa, and Foreigners Registration Tracking System (IVFRTS) confirmed their nationality and revealed that their authorized duration of stay had long expired.
Lapsed Student and Medical Visas
Investigators disclosed that the detained women were residing in the country on different categories of visas that had expired months or years prior, without undergoing mandatory extensions or renewal procedures. While one of them entered on a student visa, the others were staying on medical visas whose validity had lapsed significantly.
Failure to report visa expirations or apply for legitimate extensions constitutes a direct violation of the Foreigners Act, prompting immediate intervention by the Special Branch and the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO).
Deportation Proceedings Underway
Following their detention, administrative authorities have expedited the paperwork required for their repatriation. Coordination with the respective diplomatic missions is ongoing to ensure that all legal protocols are fulfilled before their official deportation. Local authorities have emphasized that such verification drives targeting undocumented foreign residents will continue to maintain national security and legal compliance.
