Weather Fury Claims 56 Lives Across Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh is currently grappling with a severe spell of extreme weather as unseasonal heavy downpours and violent storms batter multiple districts. According to the state relief commissioner's office, the relentless weather onslaught over the past 60 hours has resulted in 56 fatalities, numerous injuries, and widespread infrastructural damage. The sudden and intense nature of the storms has disrupted normal daily life across vast regions of the state.
Beyond human casualties, the calamity has caused significant economic losses, particularly in rural sectors. Official reports indicate that over 100 livestock animals have perished, while more than a thousand houses have suffered varying degrees of damage, ranging from partial structural cracks to complete collapse. Uprooted trees and severe waterlogging have crippled power supply and transportation networks in several districts.
Hardest Hit Districts Highlighted in Relief Reports
Out of the state's 75 districts, 56 have recorded exceptionally heavy rainfall. Sitapur has emerged as the worst-affected district with 7 reported deaths. Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, and Balrampur have each recorded 5 fatalities, while Ayodhya and Gorakhpur reported 4 deaths each. Districts like Hardoi, Mainpuri, Shravasti, and Barabanki have registered dozens of injuries.
Housing damage is particularly extensive in Hardoi, where 272 homes were impacted. Other badly affected regions include Sitapur, Chandauli, Auraiya, Gonda, Hamirpur, and Shahjahanpur. Local administrations are racing against time to set up temporary shelters and distribute relief supplies to displaced families.
Administrative Machinery Mobilized for Rapid Response
State Relief Commissioner Dr. Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod chaired an emergency review meeting with district magistrates and administrative officials to oversee rescue operations. Officials have been directed to remain stationed in their respective jurisdictions and maintain direct contact with affected populations.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Directs Crop Damage Assessment
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken serious note of the disaster and ordered comprehensive damage assessments, especially regarding agricultural crops. With large swathes of farming land submerged, the government has promised prompt compensation to affected farmers as per established norms.
The administration has also issued public advisories warning citizens to stay away from overflowing water bodies, rivers, and downed power lines. Citizens can access emergency assistance through the state relief helpline number 1070.
