Vande Bharat Express Set to Run Seven Days a Week
Indian Railways is planning a major overhaul in the operational schedule of its premium Vande Bharat Express trains. To enhance passenger convenience, Northern Railway has submitted a formal proposal to the Railway Board, aiming to operate these semi-high-speed trains all seven days of the week on selected high-density routes.
Currently, over 160 Vande Bharat rakes are operating across nearly 79 routes nationwide. While these trains have revolutionized inter-city travel, they typically observe a weekly maintenance day where services are temporarily suspended. To eliminate this gap, railway authorities have devised a plan to introduce spare rakes.
The Strategy Behind the Extra Rake System
Maintenance is crucial for high-speed trains to ensure safety and smooth performance. Previously, routes like the Khajuraho-New Delhi Vande Bharat remained non-operational once a week due to scheduled servicing. Under the new proposal, an additional spare rake will be deployed, allowing seamless operations even when the primary rake undergoes mandatory technical checks.
Officials from the Jhansi railway division confirmed that the proposal has been forwarded for final approval. If implemented, travelers will no longer face service interruptions on designated days, significantly improving travel flexibility.
