West Bengal Clears Major Recruitment Drive for One Lakh Posts
In a significant boost to employment opportunities, the West Bengal state government has greenlit a comprehensive recruitment drive to fill nearly one lakh vacancies across multiple departments by the end of the current financial year. The decision was finalized during a cabinet meeting, setting the stage for one of the largest hiring sprees in recent years.
According to the state administration, the hiring process will be rolled out in a phased manner, commencing from October and extending through March. Eligible candidates will be selected across 54 government departments based on existing vacancies and operational requirements, bringing a wave of fresh energy into the state's administrative machinery.
Massive Openings in Police and School Education
The recruitment drive places heavy emphasis on the security and education sectors. The state police department is set to induct around 12,000 new personnel, while the Kolkata Police will fill 4,000 vacancies. These additions are expected to substantially strengthen law enforcement and security apparatus across the region.
Concurrently, the school education department will absorb approximately 34,000 teachers and non-teaching staff. This massive influx of educators aims to address longstanding staffing gaps in schools, thereby improving the overall quality of education and providing stable employment to qualified aspirants.
New University and Dedicated Ayush Department Announced
Beyond employment, the cabinet also approved the establishment of a new state university named after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, with a bill slated to be tabled in the upcoming assembly session. Furthermore, a separate administrative department for AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy) will be formed to provide dedicated administrative oversight to traditional medicine systems.
