Ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, political tensions are already scaling up. Amid discussions of a potential alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took a sharp dig at both parties. Speaking at the 'Panchayat Aaj Tak Punjab' event, Mann narrated an anecdotal story to ridicule the prospective partnership.
The Analogy of the Turtle and the Mouse
Mocking the ties between the Akali Dal and the BJP, CM Mann narrated a story of a turtle and a mouse who tied their tails together to stay united. However, when the turtle felt hot, it dived deep into the water, causing the mouse to drown and die. Later, when the turtle came out, an eagle swooped down to carry away the dead mouse, lifting the tied turtle into the air as well, only for it to fall hundreds of meters to its death.
Through this fable, Mann took a direct jibe, suggesting that both the BJP and the Akali Dal should decide for themselves who plays the turtle and who plays the mouse in this political equation.
'We Will Seek Votes on Our Work, Not Through Criticisms'
Targeting the opposition, Bhagwant Mann made it clear that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will not seek votes in the upcoming assembly elections by criticizing rival leaders or indulging in mudslinging. Instead, the party will campaign strictly on the basis of its performance and public welfare initiatives.
Mann highlighted achievements in power supply, irrigation, healthcare, government employment, and education as core poll issues. He claimed that around 14,000 kilometers of canal pipelines have been laid across Punjab to ensure water reaches agricultural fields. He also pointed to the success of Mohalla Clinics and healthcare schemes.
Shifting Focus from Delhi Model to Punjab Model
Addressing questions regarding the 'Delhi Model' previously touted during elections, Mann asserted that Punjab now boasts its own successful 'Punjab Model'. Citing the massive transformation in government schools, he noted that while only around 80 students cleared the NEET exam from state-run schools in 2021, that number has now surged to nearly 800. He also highlighted smart classrooms, advanced science labs, and overseas training programs for teachers.
