Weather changes in Haryana with yellow alert and rain, farmers worried

Chandigarh/Ground Bureau — Haryana is currently witnessing a dual phase of weather changes and economic developments. On one hand, sudden rains and hailstorms have triggered anxiety among farmers, while on the other hand, major investment proposals have poured in from Singapore. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rain in nine districts of the state. Hailstorms in Panchkula have brought a sudden drop in temperature, while harvested paddy crops lying in the Yamunanagar grain market got soaked due to unexpected downpours. Farmers are scrambling to protect their produce with plastic sheets and tarpaulins as procurement season peaks.

According to weather officials, this sudden shift is a result of an active western disturbance affecting the region. Rainfall is predicted across various parts of the state until October 12, marking the onset of a mild winter chill as nighttime temperatures fall. While farmers worry about crop damage and increased moisture content affecting procurement, the state government has simultaneously secured significant economic backing from international investors following Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini's visit to Singapore.

A Major Economic Boost Amid Weather Uncertainty

Even as farmers battle erratic weather patterns, Haryana's industrial sector has received a massive shot in the arm. Singaporean investors have proposed investments worth approximately Rs 5,500 crore, aimed at transforming urban development and manufacturing from Gurugram to Panipat. The ambitious initiative seeks to position Haryana as India's leading innovation capital by developing modern industrial clusters, smart urban planning frameworks, and eco-friendly manufacturing units modelled after Singapore's best practices.

Administrative sources indicate that these investments will generate large-scale employment for local youth and radically upgrade infrastructure across the National Capital Region corridor. Government representatives have emphasized that leveraging Haryana's strategic location and robust connectivity remains central to attracting global capital. Meanwhile, ground reports from various grain markets reveal a scramble to secure wet paddy stocks, with local administrations rushing to deploy tarpaulins and expedite lifting operations to mitigate farmers' distress.
