Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union Minister Murli Manohar Joshi has made a significant statement regarding student movements, asserting that the legitimate demands of students must always be heard with empathy. He strongly criticized the use of force and batons to deal with student protests, stating that such methods cannot resolve any underlying issues.
'Batons are no solution, they are our children'
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 21st FICCI Higher Education Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Joshi emphasized that authorities must engage with students rather than resorting to high-handed tactics.
He remarked, 'Using batons is not the right way. You can never find a solution this way. If there is a problem, listen to them. They are our children.' The two-day summit is being held under the theme 'Higher Education for a New World Order: Reform, Resilience and Relevance.'
Need for balance in the education system
The Padma Vibhushan recipient also highlighted the core philosophy of the Indian education system, stating that it envisions a world where all aspects of human development are balanced. He stressed the importance of simultaneously advancing physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth in students.
