Senior Police Officer Gunned Down in Taran Taran
In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the law enforcement circles of Punjab, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the police was shot dead in broad daylight in the Taran Taran district. The brazen attack has raised serious questions regarding the security of police personnel and the audacity of criminal elements operating in the region. The assailants executed the plan with chilling precision, leaving the local community in a state of shock.
Senior police officials, along with heavy reinforcement, rushed to the crime scene immediately after receiving information. The area was cordoned off, and forensic teams collected crucial physical evidence to trace the culprits. Victim Was Returning Home After Completing Duty
According to preliminary details, the deceased ASI, identified as Iqbal Singh (55), was posted with the Counter Intelligence wing in Ferozepur. On Sunday evening, after wrapping up his official duties, he was riding his motorcycle back to his native village, Naushehra Pannuan. As he approached the patwarkhana near Lohka road, unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle waylaid him.
Eyewitnesses and investigators revealed that the attackers opened indiscriminate fire without giving the officer any chance to defend himself. Sustaining multiple bullet injuries to his chest and upper torso, ASI Iqbal Singh collapsed on the spot and succumbed to his injuries before medical help could arrive. The armed attackers managed to flee under the cover of darkness.
Suspected Links to Nephew's Murder Last Month
Investigators are closely examining whether this violent attack is linked to a previous family feud or criminal rivalry. Just a month prior, on September 11, ASI Iqbal Singh's nephew, Ajmeet Singh, was also shot dead by bike-borne assailants. The primary accused in that case was later apprehended following a police encounter.
Police records indicate that the deceased nephew, Ajmeet Singh, had a tainted background with around half a dozen serious criminal cases registered against him, including involvement in the RPG attack at the Sarhali police station. Law enforcement agencies are now analyzing whether the killing of the police officer is a retaliatory act tied to past criminal vendettas.
DIG Inspects Crime Scene Amid Gangster Claims
DIG Sandeep Sharma visited the crime site to assess the situation firsthand. He stated to the media that the officer sustained fatal gunshot wounds and that investigators have retrieved crucial leads. Police leadership has assured that the perpetrators will be hunted down and brought to justice swiftly.
