Congress Stages Massive Protest Rally in Dehradun Over Case and Governor Appointment
Simultaneously, the political landscape in Uttarakhand heated up as the state Congress unit organized a massive bike and scooter rally in Dehradun. Led by senior party figures, the procession started from the ISBT area and culminated at the historic Clock Tower (Ghantaghar). Hundreds of party workers raised slogans against both the state and central administrations.
The protest was primarily organized to demand swift justice for Ankita Bhandari and to vehemently oppose the appointment of Dushyant Gautam as the Governor of Sikkim. Congress leaders alleged that appointing an individual whose name surfaced during public discussions surrounding the high-profile case to a constitutional post hurts public sentiments.
"The daughters and citizens of Uttarakhand view this critical issue as a matter of personal dignity and honor. The government's attempts to shield certain individuals will never be accepted by the public."— Kumari Selja, Congress State In-Charge
Candlelight Marches and Demands for Transparency Across Uttarakhand
Protests were not limited to Dehradun alone, as similar demonstrations, including candlelight marches, were witnessed in districts like Haridwar. Local leaders emphasized that the fight for Ankita is fundamentally tied to women's safety and public trust in the judicial framework. They urged the authorities to release progress reports on audio recordings and other evidence linked to the investigation.
