Ranchi Emerges as a Top Hub for Education and Employment
Jharkhand's capital, Ranchi, has once again proven its mettle on the national platform. According to the latest district-level estimates released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), Ranchi has secured a prestigious position among the top 100 most populous districts in the country with minimal proportions of youth detached from education, employment, or training.
This achievement places Ranchi right behind major southern urban centers like Ernakulam in Kerala, Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, and Bengaluru Urban in Karnataka. The inclusion of Ranchi in this elite list highlights the growing educational awareness and career-oriented drive among the youth of the region.
Understanding the NEET Rate and Ranchi's Performance
The NSO report evaluates the NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) rate, which measures the proportion of youth aged 15–29 who are neither studying nor engaged in any job or vocational training. In this critical metric, Ranchi has performed exceptionally well.
Only 16.5 percent of the population in the 15–29 age group in Ranchi falls under the NEET category. This indicates that a remarkable 83.5 percent of this demographic is actively pursuing education, employment, or skill development. Across Jharkhand as a whole, 79 percent of the population is engaged in similar productive activities, with the state's average NEET rate standing at 21 percent.
Promising Trends Across Other Jharkhand Districts
While Ranchi has made headlines due to its demographic weight and urban-rural blend, West Singhbhum has surpassed expectations by recording an even lower NEET rate of just 10.4 percent. On the other hand, Deoghar district recorded the highest NEET rate in the state at 32.4 percent, indicating a targeted area for future governmental intervention.
West Singhbhum also emerged as a leader in Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) at 68.3 percent and Worker Population Ratio (WPR) at 67.1 percent. Female labor force participation in the district also peaked at 55.7 percent, showcasing robust economic activity among women in the region.
