Serious Questions Raised Over Uttarakhand's Educational System
The state of public education in hilly states has always been a subject of intense debate. In a fresh political development, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has launched a scathing attack on the Pushkar Singh Dhami-led government in Uttarakhand, raising serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of government schools. The party claims that hundreds of primary schools across the state have been shut down over the past few years, posing a grave threat to the foundational education of children in rural areas.
This issue goes far beyond mere political rhetoric; it directly impacts the future of children from underprivileged families. When primary schools in remote hilly regions are shuttered, young children are forced to travel miles to reach schools in neighboring villages, raising genuine security and educational concerns for parents.
Claim of 826 Closed Primary Schools and Demands for Answers
Addressing a press conference in Dehradun, CJP North Zone Convenor Shreshtha Singh Khera presented data to corner the government. He claimed that a total of 826 primary schools have been shut down across various districts of Uttarakhand over the last five years. The party has demanded answers regarding the exact reasons behind these closures and what alternative arrangements were made for the affected students.
The party asserts that instead of merely presenting statistical paperwork, the government must reveal the current status of these defunct school properties. CJP has demanded a detailed white paper to bring transparency to the entire matter.
Acute Teacher Shortage and Lack of Basic Infrastructure
Apart from the closed institutions, the condition of currently operational government schools remains alarming. CJP leaders alleged that several government schools across the state lack regular teachers for crucial subjects like mathematics and science. Without foundational educators at the primary and middle school levels, students cannot hope to pursue higher education successfully.
Furthermore, infrastructural deficiencies have emerged as a massive hurdle. According to party claims, nearly 270 government schools in the state still lack clean drinking water facilities. Operating schools without basic amenities like functional toilets, electricity, and boundary walls makes learning exceptionally difficult for young students.
Ten-Day Ultimatum and Threat of Statewide Agitation
Frustrated by the administration's apathy, the CJP has issued a stern 10-day ultimatum to the Dhami government. The party stated clearly that if concrete steps and a roadmap to reform the education system are not introduced within the next 10 days, severe protests will follow.
