MADRID — Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino has become the biggest talking point in the world of football. During the FIFA World Cup 2026 matches, Merino stunned football legends with his exceptional style of play. Scoring a crucial goal in extra time against Portugal, he completely turned the game around, securing a vital spot for Spain in the next round.
From the beginning of the tournament, several major teams have faced unexpected exits. Merino first worked his magic against Portugal, shattering the long-cherished World Cup dream of football icon Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite putting up a tough fight, Ronaldo's team could not withstand Merino's tactical brilliance on the field.
Defeating Kevin De Bruyne's Team After Ronaldo
Following Portugal, Spain faced a formidable Belgium side. Belgium's star player Kevin De Bruyne played with utmost dedication to secure a win for his team. However, the synergy between Mikel Merino and Fabian Ruiz proved too strong for any defense to handle during the match.
With this crucial victory, Spain has directly entered the semi-finals, getting closer to lifting the trophy. Football experts believe that Spain's journey in this tournament has been exceptionally well-planned, with Merino acting as their primary weapon on the pitch.
A Historic Record Etched in Football History
Sports analysts state that Mikel Merino has now created a record that will be remembered for a very long time. Knocking out two of the world's finest playmakers in a single tournament is no small feat, proving that modern football rewards both skill and sharp tactical awareness.
As the tournament reaches its business end, all eyes are locked on the Spanish team. Opposing coaches are now recalculating how to counter Merino's aggressive yet calculated moves on the field as the excitement hits an all-time high.
