Political tensions in the national capital escalated further as Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President Harmeet Singh Kalka formally registered a written complaint with the Delhi Police against AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal and his associates. The incident has triggered a heated debate over the alleged political misuse of religious spaces during demonstrations.
Allegations of Political Activities Inside Religious Premises
Harmeet Singh Kalka submitted the complaint at the DCP office on Parliament Street, accusing Kejriwal and party members of attempting to breach peace and spreading fake news. The complaint specifically alleges that protesters entered the sacred premises of Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, raised political slogans, and propagated misleading videos to defame the shrine and its management.
The controversy erupted following a protest where demonstrators reportedly sought refuge in public restrooms and major gurdwara premises to evade police detention. According to reports, individuals protesting against the Chief Election Commissioner's resignation entered Gurudwara Bangla Sahib and Gurudwara Rakab Ganj before moving toward Jantar Mantar and Connaught Place.
DSGMC Stands Firm: Misuse of Holy Places Unacceptable
The DSGMC president strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party, terming the act as 'dirty politics.' He stated that despite security and management staff attempting to stop them, protesters forcibly entered the premises and carried placards meant for the demonstration. Kalka emphasized that the sanctity of religious sites must be maintained at all costs and political sloganeering inside will not be tolerated.
Several video clips concerning this incident have gone viral across social media platforms, capturing the movement of protesters around religious premises. However, 'The Freelance' does not independently verify the claims made in these circulating videos.
Police Action and Investigation
The Delhi Police are currently examining all aspects of the complaint. Authorities face the dual challenge of maintaining law and order while respecting the dignity of religious institutions. With this official complaint now registered, political friction is expected to intensify in the coming days.
