In a bizarre turn of events, a notorious history-sheeter from Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district, who had been missing from police radar for over two decades, was discovered running a grand spiritual court in Jhansi as a godman known as 'Kali Sarkar'. Pradeep Shukla, formerly infamous as 'Natroj' in his hometown, managed to completely alter his identity and establish a massive following in a remote village.
From Crime Syndicate to Spiritual Saint
According to police records, Pradeep Shukla was booked in 13 heinous criminal cases between 1987 and 2002, ranging from extortion, attempt to murder, kidnapping, and assault to illegal weapons possession. His criminal history sheet (No. 34A) was opened at the Hardoi Kotwali police station in 2002. Shortly after, he vanished from Hardoi, leaving behind his family business of selling gems and religious items. He eventually traveled to Jhansi's Mauranipur region and settled in Kuraincha village, slowly transforming himself into 'Satyanand Shukla alias Kali Sarkar'.
Temple Court and Miracle Claims
Operating from a local temple while dressed in camouflage attire, Shukla began attracting crowds by claiming supernatural powers, curing illnesses, and predicting futures through slips of paper. Over the years, his popularity skyrocketed, drawing devotees from distant regions and even claiming foreign followers. Reels and videos posted on Instagram and Facebook brought him viral fame, which ultimately became his undoing when local citizens and authorities recognized his old facial features.
Police Verification and Release
As part of a state-wide drive to verify long-absconding history-sheeters, Hardoi police spotted the viral videos of 'Kali Sarkar'. A joint operation by Hardoi and Jhansi police led to his temporary detention from the temple premises. Circle Officer (City) Ajeet Singh confirmed that Shukla was brought back to Hardoi strictly for official verification of his criminal history, after which he was let go in accordance with legal norms. The unbelievable metamorphosis of a 90s criminal into a revered spiritual leader has left locals completely stunned.
