Major Disruption Expected in Banking Services
If you have pending financial work or need to visit your bank branch in the coming days, you need to act immediately. The final week of September is bringing a series of holidays and nationwide strike calls by bank employee unions, which is going to severely impact routine banking operations across the country.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the State Bank of India (SBI) and other major public and private sector banks have issued urgent advisories to their customers, urging them to complete all essential financial transactions well ahead of the impending shutdown.
Five Consecutive Days of Closure
The sequence of holidays and strike dates means that bank branches could remain non-operational for five consecutive days, starting from the fourth Saturday of the month through the three-day strike period.
September 26 is the fourth Saturday, followed by Sunday, September 27. Immediately after these weekend holidays, bank employees under the banner of the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) have proposed a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to September 30. This creates an unprecedented five-day block where physical banking operations will come to a complete standstill.
What Customers Should Do
While digital banking channels like UPI, net banking, and mobile applications are expected to remain operational, over-the-counter services, cash deposits, loan clearances, and physical document submissions will be stalled. Customers are strongly advised to withdraw adequate cash and complete their urgent branch-related chores by September 25 to avoid any inconvenience.
