BYD's Luxury Brand Denza Headed to India
The Indian automotive landscape is gearing up to welcome another prominent global brand as Chinese electric vehicle pioneer BYD prepares to introduce its luxury sub-brand, Denza, into the country. The official entry has been confirmed through an introductory teaser released by the company, signaling a major push into India's growing premium electric mobility segment.
Originally formed as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, Denza is now fully owned by BYD and operates as its dedicated high-end luxury division. The brand is globally recognized for producing technologically advanced, ultra-luxury electric vehicles that cater to affluent buyers looking for cutting-edge features and supreme comfort.
Flagship Models Expected at Launch
While the exact launch timeline and specific vehicle models remain under wraps for now, industry insiders suggest that Denza is likely to kick off its Indian operations with two standout products: the Denza D9 luxury electric MPV and the Denza Z9 GT high-performance electric fastback. Both models are expected to be imported via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route.
The Denza D9, in particular, is a full-size 7-seater luxury MPV designed to rival high-end vehicles like the Toyota Vellfire, Lexus LM, and Mercedes-Benz V-Class. It boasts massive dimensions, measuring 5250 mm in length, 1960 mm in width, and 1920 mm in height, with a generous wheelbase of 3110 mm ensuring unmatched cabin space.
High-End Features and Extended Range
Inside the cabin, the Denza D9 offers a lounge-like experience with a 15.9-inch central touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a dedicated front passenger display, and operational rear entertainment screens. Powered by a large battery pack ranging between 103kWh and 115kWh, the vehicle promises an impressive claimed driving range of up to 800 kilometers on a single charge.
As an exclusive offering, these vehicles will be retailed through dedicated luxury showrooms rather than regular dealerships, cementing Denza's positioning as an ultra-premium brand in the Indian market.
