Massive Growth in India's Electric Two-Wheeler Market
The demand for electric vehicles in the Indian market has touched new heights. According to the latest Vahan data, a staggering 15.61 million electric two-wheelers were registered in India between January and September 2026. This exponential growth reflects a major shift in consumer preferences toward eco-friendly and cost-effective commuting options.
Compared to the first nine months of 2025, when the number stood at 9.61 million units, the current year has witnessed an increase of nearly 6 million units. This represents a robust year-on-year growth rate of 62 percent, outperforming the total sales recorded in the entirety of the previous year.
Dominance of Four Major Manufacturers
The market is heavily consolidated, with four primary manufacturers accounting for 76 percent of the total sales. TVS Motor Company, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy, and Hero MotoCorp continue to lead the pack, offering advanced features and reliable battery ranges that appeal to modern commuters.
Last month alone, the segment registered 1.97 million new vehicles, marking a 7.7 percent growth compared to August. Models like the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, and Ather Rizta have captured significant market share due to their competitive pricing and impressive technological integrations.
