Tata Motors Sets New Benchmarks in Indian Auto Market
Major domestic automaker Tata Motors has achieved a monumental milestone in the passenger vehicle segment. During the second quarter of the financial year 2027, spanning from July to September 2026, the company successfully retailed over 200,000 vehicles, showcasing robust consumer demand.
According to official data released by the company, total combined domestic and global sales reached 201,723 units. This marks an impressive 40 percent year-on-year growth compared to the 144,397 units sold during the same period in the previous fiscal year.
Green Powertrains Take the Lead
The most significant shift in Tata's recent performance is the transformation in fuel-type preferences. The combined contribution of electric vehicles (EVs) and CNG variants has now crossed 51 percent of the total sales portfolio, officially pushing traditional internal combustion engines (ICE) into the minority for the brand.
Electric vehicle sales alone surged by nearly 90 percent, with the company dispatching 47,150 units during the quarter. Meanwhile, CNG models contributed 28 percent to the overall sales volume, benefiting heavily from innovative twin-cylinder packaging.
Strong Monthly Dispatches Ahead of Festive Season
Driven by strong demand for popular models like the Tata Punch and expanding EV adoption, the company crossed the 70,000 monthly sales mark for the first time in September 2026. Experts believe this momentum will continue to drive growth through the upcoming festive season.
