Historic decision for the coastal region
In a landmark decision, the Karnataka government has granted Tulu the status of an additional official language in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar following the Cabinet meeting held at the Praja Soudha building in Mangaluru.
Focus on people's livelihood and development
Addressing the press, Shivakumar stated that the government prioritized the welfare and livelihood of the people over political debates regarding previous delays. Tulu is an ancient Dravidian language spoken by nearly one crore people globally, primarily rooted in the undivided Dakshina Kannada and Udupi regions.

Proposal to rename Dakshina Kannada
Additionally, the Cabinet discussed a proposal to rename Dakshina Kannada district to Mangaluru. Public opinion will be gathered, and a final decision on this matter is expected within the next month as part of the regional development initiatives.
