FSSAI initiates action against Nestlé
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has started legal proceedings against Nestlé India Limited regarding its baby formula milk products. The adjudication notice questions three nutrient products, including NAN Excella Pro Stage 1, Lactogen Pro 1, and a follow-up formula, over promotional violations.
Misleading promotional claims
According to FSSAI, advertisements for NAN Excella Pro Stage 1 highlighted 5 HMOs and whey protein, while Lactogen Pro 1 claimed easy digestibility of whey protein to boost sales without proper regulatory compliance.
Biotin levels exceed parameters
In addition to promotional claims, laboratory tests on a Nestlé follow-up formula sample revealed biotin levels exceeding the permitted parameters, even after re-testing, prompting strict regulatory scrutiny.
