Electricity Workers Attacked While on Official Duty in Damoh
A shocking incident has come to light from the Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh, where electricity department employees faced violent opposition while performing their official duties. The incident highlights the growing challenges and safety risks faced by ground-level government workers in rural areas.
The incident took place in Adharota village under the Nohatta police station jurisdiction. The victims had gone to the village to collect pending electricity bills and resolve consumer complaints. However, the situation quickly escalated into violence, leaving the staff traumatized.
Dispute Erupts Near the Village Transformer
According to the official complaint filed by electricity department employee Balram Singh Lodhi, he and three other colleagues visited Adharota village following strict instructions from senior officials. Their primary objective was bill collection and grievance redressal.
When the team reached near the village transformer, they were intercepted by a group of locals. As the employees attempted to carry out their work, the accused persons allegedly obstructed them and started hurling abuses.
Assault and Threats Over Bill Collection
The verbal altercation soon turned physical as the accused persons allegedly resorted to manhandling and beating the electricity workers. They also threatened the staff with dire consequences if they continued their work.
The terrified employees immediately alerted their senior officers regarding the assault. Following instructions from higher authorities, the team reached the Nohatta police station to lodge a formal complaint.
Police Register Case Against Four Named Accused
Based on the complaint, the Nohatta police have registered a case against four individuals: Rajju Singh आदिवासी, Jageshwar Mishra, Halke Athya, and Anil Sen. They face charges related to obstructing public servants from discharging duty, assault, and criminal intimidation.
