Tragic Deaths During UP Homeguard Physical Test
The physical efficiency test (PET) for Homeguard recruitment in Uttar Pradesh has turned grim following the sudden deaths of four candidates within a span of just four days. The incidents, reported from Meerut, Lucknow, and Moradabad, have sent shockwaves across the state and raised serious questions regarding the physical fitness standards and preparedness of young aspirants.
According to official reports, the victims collapsed suddenly either during or immediately after completing their running tests at designated recruitment centers. Medical professionals and authorities are now emphasizing the critical need for adequate prior physical conditioning before undertaking such strenuous athletic evaluations.
Details of Incidents in Meerut and Lucknow
The highest number of casualties occurred in Meerut district, where two youths lost their lives at the Kailash Prakash Sports Stadium. Ankush Malik and Tarun Kumar collapsed on consecutive days during their respective 4.8-kilometer runs. Similar tragic outcomes were reported from Lucknow's Reserve Police Line, where Jogendra Kumar passed away, and in Moradabad, where Shivam Yadav collapsed just meters away from the finish line.
The recruitment test requires candidates to complete a 4.8-kilometer run within a strict timeframe of 28 minutes, involving multiple laps around the stadium track. Experts note that many candidates attempt this grueling test without adequate prior practice, putting immense sudden pressure on their cardiovascular systems.
Medical Warnings and Precautions
Senior medical officers have strongly advised that fitness tests should never be attempted without at least a month of prior physical training. Dr. Praveen Srivastava from Balrampur Hospital noted that candidates must never run on an empty stomach and should maintain proper hydration and electrolyte balance to prevent fatal exhaustion.
