Renowned television and film actor Deven Bhojani, famous for his remarkable performances in iconic shows like 'Sarabhai vs Sarabhai', 'Baa Bahoo and Baby', and 'Office Office', recently shared some lesser-known struggles from his four-decade-long career. The veteran actor revealed how people often judged his casting decisions based on his physical appearance rather than his acting prowess.
The Bizarre Advice About Weight and Casting
During an interview, Deven recalled how people used to advise him against losing weight. He shared, 'People would tell me not to lose weight, or else I would stop getting roles. I told them, "Brother, people don't cast me because I am heavy; they cast me because I am a good actor."'
Deven admitted that it deeply hurt him when people overlooked his versatile acting skills and reduced his career achievements merely to his body weight. He wanted directors to recognize him as a wholesome actor capable of executing diverse roles.
Stepping Away From TV to Break the Mold
To shatter this preconceived notion and escape the continuous loop of comedy roles, Deven took a bold step by quitting television six years ago. He shifted his focus to OTT platforms to explore darker, more layered characters. Although he is immensely proud of his comedic legacy, he wanted to push his creative boundaries before his career concluded.
