Farmers Announce Massive Protest March to Delhi
The political and administrative corridors are bracing for another major showdown as farmers across the country prepare to march toward Delhi on October 23. Spearheaded by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), the protest is primarily centered around a strong demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The agrarian leaders have accused the poll panel of severe irregularities during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, claiming it compromises the fairness of the democratic process.
During a recent press briefing, senior farmer leaders outlined the strategy for the upcoming agitation. Despite strict restrictions and security measures around protest sites in the national capital, the farming community remains unfazed. Representatives from various trade unions, student bodies, and civil society groups are slated to join hands with the farmers to amplify their voice against the poll machinery.
Controversy Over Voter List Revision and CEC Resignation
At the heart of the agitation is the contentious process of voter list revision. The SKM alleges that arbitrary omissions and procedural flaws are marring the exercise, directly impacting citizens' voting rights. Protesters argue that constitutional bodies must maintain absolute transparency, making the demand for accountability inevitable.
By targeting the top leadership of the Election Commission, the protesting unions aim to draw immediate national attention to the alleged systemic flaws. District and tehsil headquarters nationwide are expected to witness simultaneous demonstrations, turning the October 23 mobilization into a massive pan-Indian event.
