Festive Joy Turns into Grief at College Campus
A festive celebration turned into an unimaginable tragedy at an engineering college in Hyderabad's Naadargul area, where a cultural event ended in a fatal accident. Students had gathered in high spirits, dressed in traditional attire, to celebrate a Dandiya night organized within the campus premises. What was supposed to be a joyous evening transformed into a nightmare when a sudden structural failure occurred.
To enhance the festive ambiance, the organizers had erected a heavy temporary arch at the entrance for lighting and decorations. As students danced underneath and around the structure, the combination of heavy materials and sudden gusty winds caused the framework to lose its balance and collapse entirely onto the unsuspecting crowd.
First-Year Student Loses Life, 14 Others Injured
The sudden collapse triggered panic and chaos as students scrambled for safety. Several individuals sustained injuries from the falling debris. First-year Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) student Sona Narayan Das suffered critical injuries. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by college authorities and peers, but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Sona's sister, Meena Narayan Das, was also severely injured in the mishap and is currently fighting for her life in the intensive care unit of a local hospital. The tragedy has left the family shattered and raised serious questions regarding safety protocols at institutional events.
Chief Minister Orders Strict Probe and Action
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed profound grief over the student's tragic demise and the injuries sustained by others. The government issued an official statement assuring all possible medical assistance to the victims undergoing treatment.
The Chief Minister directed district authorities and police officials to identify those responsible for the negligence and initiate strict legal action against them to prevent such incidents in the future.
