Telugu superstar Prabhas commands massive box office pull, but his recent theatrical outings have faced unexpected hurdles. Director Maruthi's fantasy-horror comedy 'The Raja Saab', released earlier this year, failed to resonate with audiences the way makers had anticipated, turning out to be one of the most underwhelming box office performances in the actor's recent career graph.
A Massive 500 Crore Budget That Fell Short
Produced by TG Vishwa Prasad under the banner of People Media Factory, the film was mounted on an expansive scale with an estimated budget of around 500 crore rupees. Tilted heavily as a mega-budget entertainer, the movie struggled to draw crowds consistently, wrapping up its worldwide theatrical run with collections hovering around 210 crore rupees, resulting in substantial financial setbacks for the stakeholders.
Producer Admits Release Timing Was a Major Blunder
During a recent media interaction, when questioned about the film's theatrical underperformance, producer TG Vishwa Prasad candidly addressed the issue. He reflected on the strategic miscalculations made during the run-up to the release.
The producer stated, "It is not that talking about 'The Raja Saab' ruins my mood. One of our biggest mistakes during the release of the film was that we brought it out during the Sankranthi festival season. If it had been released at any other time, things might have been different. Right now, we are at peace and enjoying our journey, so let us be."
Looking Ahead at Future Projects
When asked whether upcoming ventures like Sandeep Reddy Vanga's directorial 'Spirit' would compensate for the disappointment, Prasad clarified his specific positioning in future projects. While 'The Raja Saab' received the widest possible release tailored to its scale, external market factors ultimately dictated its box office fate. Fans now eagerly await Prabhas' upcoming cinematic spectacles to reclaim his box office dominance.
